About

This blog is a celebration of novel, novel characters!

I love reading novels, and as an artist I know a great exercise to stretch one's illustration skills is to portray characters from a description in a book. This blog is a challenge to myself to do just that so I'll be posting illustrations from whatever book I'm currently reading. Feel free to add comments and send me your fan art for these great titles too!

Elizabeth from Unconditional by Tanya Eavenson

I don’t know about you, but I’m ever so thankful it’s Friday.  I’ve had a busy week and I’m glad it’s almost over.  There’s so many things I want to do, and never enough time!  Speaking of which, I was so excited when I started this blog that I got over ambitious about agreeing to feature so many books, my apologies and thanks to Tanya who kindly sent me a review copy of her book “Unconditional” last year.  I’m sorry I didn’t feature it until now!

“Unconditional” was a rather emotional read, heartfelt, and sincere.  A lot of the drama made me think of soap operas- comas, amnesia, cheating spouses, deaths, but these elements which would usually be shallow and tawdry on a TV show were told with truth, depth, and love.  Tanya truly understands the workings of the human heart and isn’t afraid to dig deep with emotional issues.

Overall, “Unconditional” is a love story, but not the kind you would expect.  At the beginning of the story Chris has been cheating on his wife Elizabeth when their whole world shatters with their infant daughter’s death.  When Elizabeth needs comfort most, she discovers his unfaithfulness.  It’s heartbreaking, and yet as Elizabeth’s story unfolds, we’re shown how when you trust in God, there’s always hope.  Instead of giving up, Chris pursues Elizabeth and does everything he can to keep their marriage from ending.

At times the story was hard to read because the characters were all dealing with such serious issues, but the plot moved along quickly bringing with it some unexpected twists, and the romantic moments between Elizabeth and Chris were tender and sweet.  If you like drama and reading stories set in the present you’ll surely enjoy this one!  Towards the end the characters take a cruise and I loved Tanya’s description of Elizabeth in her blue dress so that’s what I chose for my sketch of her!

Thanks for reading and have a blessed weekend!
